my thesis is titled "ein typografischer stadtspaziergang (a typographic city walk)". it focuses on the human experience of (urban) spaces, especially the unique experience of walking in cities. foot traffic is the most sustainable, accessible and healthy mode of transport, while also promoting a deep interaction with the spaces we walk in. my project introduces both the graphic and semantic components of type into the city landscape to make viewers aware of the unique perspective they have while walking. 40 signs, cut from acrylic in 2 layers, are hung up around düsseldorf to ask passer by's questions related to traffic, socioeconomic, psychological and philosophical issues. the signs are also displayed in a book, which accompanies the magazine containing my theoretical thesis. the goal of the project is to create a greater awareness for urban spaces and the ubiquitous (typo-)graphic design surrounding us at all times.
